Sunnie Williams provides an unflinchingly honest account of her young son's struggles with some incredibly debilitating behaviors. I was profoundly moved by her story as she carried me along with her every step of the way on this journey -- before Kevin's official diagnosis, during his psychological evaluations, and during his hospitalizations. But despite the heavy emotional turmoil this family endures (Sunnie has three other children besides Kevin!), this book did not leave me feeling depressed. Sunnie is nothing short of resilient and completely eschews self-pity. She finds great strength in her spirituality and letting go of what she cannot control. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about how schizophrenia can present in children and anyone who is simply looking for some authentic inspiration to withstand life's challenges. We can all learn a lot from her.
