Editor Simon Wessely has made a cottage industry of intentionally misrepresenting serious somatic diseases as psychogenic. This is no exception. For example he categorizes ME ("CFS") here as a functional somatic syndrome and a medically unexplained syndrome. He says that ME is maintained by the sufferer fearing exercise and catastrophising symptoms and so on. Other authors here also place ME under neurasthenia which the note is in the psychological disorders section of ICD 10. Wessely and friends have been famously rebuked by WHO in a statement that admonishes Wessely for attempting to cast ME "CFS" as being in the mental disorder section of ICD 10.
One wonders what other intentional misrepresentations the editors have made in this book.
