This story changed my life. Debbie is mother to two children, Heather and Logan, born with Miller Syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition, which results in severe facial and limb abnormalities. Additionally, Heather and Logan suffer from autism, ADD, and a rare lung disease, any one of which might have been an overwhelming challenge for any parent to deal with by itself. However Debbie has not only stepped up to the parenting plate with unwavering determination, compassion, and pride, she has done so while coping with her own devastatingly dysfunctional family upbringing, near-poverty level financial resources, a painful eating disorder, and a recently diagnosed case of MS. Lacking positive role models in her own parents, Debbie had to learn every survival skill on her own. Debbie somehow found a way to make Heather and Logan's birthdays and Christmases special while being their sole caretaker through forty-six separate painful surgical procedures. With Debbie's consistent support and guidance, Heather, now 33, has earned a degree in physiology and Logan 30, is a successful painter. After reading this book I can never say my life is unfair again, even more important, I learned the power of accepting life's challenges, and focusing on what is good, and what I have the power to do.
