The book gives extremely detailed information about how to use the supplements in The Road Back Program. However, the emphasis is on preventing or improving the side effects anxiety, depression, insomnia and brain zaps. The recommendation of Omega 3 and calcium for brain zaps is very useful. There is no information for the common side effects such as vertigo, blurred vision, tinnitis or ringing in the ears, nausea, dizziness, and flu-like aches and pains. These side effects are very common and are not addressed at all.
The major drawback is the fact that the author suggests a taper of 10 to 20% but then specifically says that for Effexor XR, the capsules should not be opened to remove granules. Since Effexor XR comes as 37.5, 75 or 150 mg capsules , the only possible reduction would be, assuming a starting dose of 150 mg, to reduce by 37.5 mg or 25%. If you are starting from a 75mg dose, the only possible reduction would be 37.5 mg or 50%. These reductions are much too big for many people.
I think it is resonable to assume that most people buying this book have made one or more unsuccesful attemps at tapering their Effexor medication. Unfortunately, even though this book is supposed to be specific to tapering off Effexor, there is no viable solution offered other than taking the multiple supplements and hoping for the best.
